National Oilwell Varco Shaffer® record of reliability in pressure control equipment is the result of continual research and development, advanced manufacturing techniques, stringent quality control and steady follow-through on after-the-sale training, service and parts. This reliability is available in ram, annular and rotating blowout preventers and in choke and kill manifold gate valves. Each pressure control product has features to increase the efficiency of your drilling or workover operations. A Ram BOP is a safety unit used during the drilling or workover operation to control well bore fluid pressure. The BOP achieves wellbore pressure control by closing rams to seal around drilling tubulars and open hole, or to shear and seal drilling tubulars under various drilling conditions. Under normal drilling the BOP experiences little or no internal pressure. However, if while drilling, a high-pressure oil or gas pocket is encountered in the well, the BOP rams can be closed to prevent the high-pressure returning well fluid (whose pressure is greater than the weight of the drilling mud) from blowing out of the well.
